Ian Simmons spent four years playing for the South Jersey Barons Youth Academy. Ian was a part of the first South Jersey Barons youth team when his team formed under the Barons banner in 1999. During his career as a Baron, Ian’s team competed at the top level of youth competition and Ian was able to compete with players who have moved on to both the MLS ranks and the US Men’s National Soccer team. Some of Ian’s individual accomplishments as a Baron include time as a NJ youth state ODP player and an offensive team MVP.

Ian attended Edgewood/Winslow Township High School where he was a four year starter. Ian was named a 4 year all-Olympic Conference player, All-1st team in his Junior and Senior years. He was named an All-State group 3 player in his Junior year and in his senior season Ian was named a 1st team All-Conference, All-South Jersey, All-state group 4 player. Ian helped lead Edgewood to its first conference title in 20 years during his Junior season. Ian was team captain in his Junior and Senior years, and finished his High School career with 32 goals in 4 seasons.

Ian played two seasons at Rutgers-University Camden, helping the Scarlet Raptors record a school best 15-2-4 mark during his first season at the school. Ian graduated from Rutgers University Camden in 2007 with a B.A. in English and has since returned to finish certification courses for a future career in English Education. Ian began coaching with the Barons in 2006 and immediately became a part of the fabric of Baron/Banshee coaching. All told Ian will be entering his 8th year as a player and coach for the club continuing his personal tradition as a South Jersey Baron.
